Ownership group Fans First Entertainment made that happen with the formation of a new team for the Coastal Plain League — a 16-team summer college league in the Southeast not affiliated with Minor League Baseball.

On Thursday, the organization revealed the team’s new name: The Savannah Bananas.
The organization chose between five names: the Bananas, the Anchors, the Ports, the Party Animals and the Seagulls. The final decision came dow to Bananas, Ports and Anchors.
The Bananas will play their home games in Grayson Stadium, the Sand Gnats’ old home field. The stadium had hosted minor league baseball since 1984.
