Sawarn Singh Virk hails from Dalelwala Mansa in Punjab, India. He primarily competes in single scull events. Before this gold medal, his best achievement was qualifying for quarter-finals in Men’s single scull event at London Olympics. The gold medal at China is 23-year-old Virk’s first major medal in international competition. He also finished 17th at 2011 World Rowing Championship in Slovenia.
